MEGUMI is a Japanese word meaning “Grace” and MEGUMI Pre-School was founded by the grace of God in 1993 as just one of the many projects of NEHA Phils, Inc. with the aim of helping the Negrenses.
NEHA was founded in 1987 by Mrs. NAOMI P. TSUJINO, a Filipina and a native of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental. She is also the founder of the affiliate schools, MEGUMI ACADEMY and MEGUMI INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CENTER.
The primary aim is to help make the poor ones enjoy quality education that is not expensive and to emphasize equality among pupils.
In response to Mrs. Tsujino’s call, Mie World Bazaar and Mrs. Tamiko Miki donated a two room school building built in a 1,250 sq.m. lot owned by Mrs. Tsujino in 1993. In the same year, a one room office building was also built and donated by Mrs. Miwako Hasegawa in memory of her late husband.
Because of NEHA-Japan, a four-room building was built in 1995-1996. Japanese who were foster parent of Filipino children endowed with generous hearts and ever-open hands to help, donated this building which served as classroom. This building is equipped with comfort room in each classroom. Spcefic donors of this building were Mr. Yoshihito Sato, Mr. Tatsuya Shindo and NEHA Takarazuka Kai Foundation.
In March 1996, the Kyoto Arashiyama Lions Hall was built. This served as the second floor of the two-room building donated by the Mie World Bazaar. This additional space provided two rooms n the second floor.
In school year 1999-2000, Mrs. Tamiko Miki donated another classroom for Grave VI pupils.
In the same year, 1996 due to the great desire of Mrs. Tsujino to help improve the lives of the poor families by providing opportunities for early education to their children, the MEGUMI ACADEMY Pontevedra was established. A three classroom building was built complete with facilities and a complete Pre-School curriculum was set-up ? Nursery, Kinder I and Kinder II.
In the year 2004, an additional 1,250 sq.m. lot was purchased. This doubled the land area of the school to 2, 500 sq.meters. With this acquisition, new plans, with God’s help, developed. The need to expand curricular offerings was realized and so application to Department of Education to offer Secondary Curriculum was filed SY 2000-2001. Thus, Megumi Academy was granted permit to offer First Year High School.
